Before starting with the importing of Items download the import template:
Go to Items and Select the Item Bank
Click on Download Template
Note: The template will download to the Downloads Folder.
If you have existing items, Assess.ai allows you to import items en masse rather than enter them one by one.
Go to the Item List screen in the item bank you want the items to reside, and click the Import Items button in the upper right.
Assess.ai accepts items in Microsoft Excel and QTI. For the Excel format select an item and use the Export button on this screen to export that item, then use that file as a template.
Note: The exported file will be listed in your Notifications page for downloading.
Below is an example with 2 items.
Note: the Unique ID is for system use only - leave this column empty for import purposes. Use Item Name to give the items a unique name.
Item Status: the status of all imported items will default to New.
Importing Item Tags
If you want to import Tags (e.g., content areas or educational standards) for each item, add a column to this spreadsheet with the name of your Tag Group as the header. Then fill in cells with the relevant tag for each item. For example, you might have a Tag Group that is "Math" and an item might be tagged Math.Algebra.Quadratics. It might be helpful to manually tag a few items in the UI and then export to see how it is formatted. Only Tags that already exist can be imported.
Importing Enemy Items
You can have a column with the header "Enemy items" and in the cells you list Item Names for items that are enemies to that item. Ensure that the Item Names are correct.
Importing Items With Multiple Questions
You can add a column as seen below, with multiple rows that have the same Item Name, to import a multi-question item.
Update existing Items
Updates to existing items can be done by using the Unique Item ID and the Question Unique ID only. The example below shows an import file using only the Unique Item and Question ID.
The Unique ID will be exported with every item.
NOTE: In the instance where the Question ID is blank on the export file; copy the Unique Id to this column.
In the example below the Math (TG) is the data that is being imported.
The import will only work if the Column Headings (Math (TG) match those fields in Assess.ai.
