June 24, 2026 (Version 5.20.0)

New Features

  • Likert custom scoring - The Likert Matrix item type now allows multiple custom score scales in the new test engine. Each row of the matrix can be set to a different scoring scale for greater flexibility.
  • Highlighter tool - A highlighter tool is now available for examinee use in the new test engine. This can be useful for items with long passages.
  • Group code expiration - Proctor group codes can be set to expire after a specified number of minutes. This reduces the likelihood of exam entry without a proctor present. A new group code can be generated by the proctor on the session dashboard prior to exam delivery.
  • TestTracker flag score - TestTracker can provide a score of the number of potentially suspicious events such as the tab losing focus. This score helps identify examinees that need further analysis.
  • TestTracker webcam tracking - TestTracker has a new optional feature to capture intermittent webcam images of the examinee. This is useful additional evidence during an investigation of suspicious activity.

  • More reliable item ordering when adding items to a test section.
  • More predictable import and deletion of references tagged to items.
  • Selected items are preserved when moving between pages.

New Features

  • Session Preview - A locked session in the new test engine can now be previewed without consuming test credits. From the session list view, click the Actions button, then Preview.
  • Video Recording item type - There is a new video recording item type available for the new test engine. This behaves similar to the audio recording item type, facilitating interview-style exams.
  • Credicycle product visibility - There is a new "Hide from store" option in Assess.ai session delivery Credicycle options, allowing products to be retired without removing access from those who have already purchased.
  • Institution session exports - A new report is available allowing bulk exports across all sessions for an institution.

Enhancements

  • Reopen Session from the session dashboard can now unlock examinees that have a required retesting wait period.
  • Various improvements to the Credicycle application and purchasing logic to make it a smoother experience for examinees.

New Features

  • Mobile exam delivery - The new delivery engine now adapts navigation controls, item content, images and tools for mobile delivery.
  • Item authoring - Users can now create partial-credit multiple response items for the new delivery engine.
  • Institution hierarchy - Institutions can now have sub-institutions. This can be useful to represent a school district, company departments, or an organization with multiple locations.
  • Institution management - A new customizable home page can be displayed to all institution users. This dashboard tab appears to the left of the institution details and contacts. This is useful for instructions and documentation for all institution users.
  • Item tagging - Items can now be assigned tags via bulk edit.

Enhancements

  • Items can now have up to 10 references.
  • The tag editor role has been simplified to allow Tag Editors full access to create, edit, and remove both tag groups and tags. This includes References.
  • Assets cannot be deleted if they are referenced by items.
  • Reliability improvements for session dashboard examinee time remaining.
  • Improvements and fixes to the QTI 2.1 export.

  • Institutions - Institutions can now have sub-institutions, useful for representing school districts and other organization hierarchies.
  • Session Delivery - "Prevent backward navigation settings" now has an independent setting for sections and items, providing more flexibility.
  • Workspace Assets - Assets needed for examinee emails, learning resources, and other public-access use cases can now be uploaded to Admin Configuration. These assets have public download links, allowing these resources to be accessed outside of Assess.ai.
  • Navigation - The navigation side bar can now be collapsed to allow more room for item authoring.

  • When a test is deleted, the previously-used name is now available for re-use.

  • Marking Rubrics - The new test engine now allows custom scoring rubrics to be defined for essay marking. This flexibility allows an essay to be scored on multiple aspects.
  • Credicycle - An admin can now mark payments as Cancelled
  • Tagging - There are two new tag types: Product tags and Institution tags. These allow multi-level tags to be applied to both Institutions and Products, similar to other existing tag types.
  • Integration API - Two new endpoints: one to list examinees, another to bulk-create or update examinees. See updated API documentation, available upon request.

Enhancements

  • Improved timeout handling in Credicycle when an examinee leaves a purchase page open for an extended period of time. Also various improvements to styling in Credicycle.
  • Performance improvements for Examinee Search filtering by examinee tag.
  • Users can now sort by first name, last name, or test code on the Session Dashboard Remaining Time tab. Last name is the default column, matching the Results tab.
  • Improvements to the Session Dashboard summary mean and standard deviation to support composite scores.

  • New item type - 10-key typing items have been added to the new authoring and delivery engine.
  • Session dashboard - when examinee rows are selected the row is now highlighted, and the examinee name remains visible when scrolling horizontally.
  • Test assembly - when adding items to a test section, there is a new advanced search option to filter by multiple item names at once.
  • QTI - support for tables in the question content during import, and support for audio playback elements during export.
  • Session search and filter - In the sessions list, the most recently used filters and the latest page viewed are preserved, allowing you to pick up where you left off.

  • Invalidated session status - An exam can now be marked as Invalidated from the session dashboard. Useful when the circumstances around an exam are suspect, and where evidence of the exam's responses, item times, and history must be kept as evidence

  • Pause, resume, and submit exam actions are more responsive and reliable in the new test engine
