Ready to dive into AssessAI? This is a Quick Start Guide that covers the most basic path to authoring items, publishing a test, and delivering it to yourself. There are many, many other additional options and functionalities; please refer to the remainder of the User Manual for full treatment.
1. Author Items
The first thing to do is create an item bank. An item bank is a set of items that you want separated. For example, you might have banks for English, Math, and Science.
Go into the item bank, and create your first item by clicking Add Item. You will need to give it a name. You should decide on a naming convention within your organization, like Math.Gr7.0001.
You will see a screen to create the content of the item like this.
Drag over the Multiple Choice icon from the left. You can then type in content, like here was typed in “What is the capital of Kentucky?” and then answers were added below it.
To specify the correct answer, click on “Scoring” on the left, and hit the radio button next to the answer.
Click “Save & Exit” on the top, and you are done with the first item! Do this a few more times to make a few items. For information on other item types, use of Assets (multimedia files), split-screens, or other advanced topics, please refer to the manual.
2. Assemble Test
Now, go to the Tests module, and click Add Test. Give it a name like “Example Test 001.”
You then see the screen for sections in the test. We will only have one section to start with. Every test must have at least one section. Click on the icon with a paper and a + to select items to be on the test.
Here, you see a screen where the right side is items that you have selected, and the left side is items available to add. You can search/filter across your item banks, and then drag and drop to the right or use the checkboxes to select several then click the Add Items button. For now, just drag a few to the right.
Go back to the list of tests, and click on the 3 dots to the far right in that row. Select “Lock” from the dropdown, which will publish the test and prevent anyone from changing it in the future.
3. Create an Examinee
Go to the Examinees module and click Add Examinee to create one. You can use a fake name and email for now.
4. Create a Session
A Session is a scheduling of a Test (or battery of Tests) to a certain set of Examinees. This is because Tests and Examinees are both reusable.
Go to the Sessions module and click Add Session.
Give it a name, then proceed to the editing screen. There are several tabs here, but only two are essential. First, you need to add a Test to the session. Go to this screen and drag your example test from the left to the right side.
Next, go to the Examinees tab and drag over the examinee that you created. Click on the two paper sheets next to their Test Code to copy it. This is a one-time password for them, as well as unique identifier of this examinee taking this test in this session.
5. Deliver a Session
To deliver the test with the Test Code, you need to go to the examinee page for your workspace, which is a URL that you chose with a format like myname.assess.ai. Here, we have nate.assess.ai. Paste in your Test Code and then click Start Test.
After you submit the test, you must return to the Sessions module as an administrator, and click on the View button to view the dashboard for the Session. This presents summary information, allows you to do live administration tasks like restarting an examinee, and access results. The table on the bottom shows summary information, but the Export button allows you to export spreadsheets of full information, including the response of every examinee to every item on the test.
That’s it! Again, this is only the simplest path, and there are many other options in the platform, for which you will need to reference the manual or contact support@assess.com for a video meeting with one of our product experts.
