This tutorial provides quick and easy instructions for the integration of FastTest and Moodle, a platform that offers all stakeholders in the learning life cycle with a “robust, secure and integrated system to create personalized learning environments.” For more information about Moodle, click here.
This integration will allow users of Moodle to seamlessly transfer candidate information to FastTest, effectively skipping the examinee import process. Then, when candidates have completed their tests using FastTest, that information can then be transferred back to Moodle. If you already use Moodle, follow the steps below to establish a bridge between Moodle and FastTest to begin pulling candidate information faster.
Setting Up Moodle
Go to Moodle and follow the steps below:
1.Login with your username and password
2. On the left side menu click on “Site Administration”
3. Go to Plugins > Activity Modules > External tool > Manage tools
4. Click on “Configure a Tool Manually”
5. Enter a Tool Name, Tool URL (this will be the LTI Link), Consumer Key (REST API) and Shared Secret (SOAP API) and click “Save Changes.”
Note: The LTI Link allows you to take a test in FastTest while pulling the profile data from another platform. To integrate FastTest with Moodle, you will need to enter the URL LTI Link, Consumer Key and a Shared Secret from Fast Test (please refer to the sections: “Finding the LTI Link” and “Finding the Consumer Key and the Shared Secret”).
6. Now that we have set up the tool, we need to add it to the course or activity. To do that, click on “Home” found on the left menu.
7. On the right-hand side click the gear and choose “Turn Editing On.”
8. Click the course where you want to include the test and click “Add an Activity or Resource”
9. Choose “External Tools” and click “Add”
10. Enter the name of the activity and from the drop-down list, next to “Preconfigured Tool”, choose the name of the tool that we entered in step 5.
11. Under “General” click “Show More”
12. Under “Launch Container” choose the display method of the test and click “Save.”
13. You should see something like this (see image below). If you want to take the test, just click the name of the activity that we entered in step 10.
14. You are all set. Enjoy your test!
Finding the LTI Link:
1. Go to app.fasttestweb.com and login with your username and password
2. Enter the workspace and go to “Test Assembler” and click the “More” button with the gear
3. Select “Test Session Builder”
4. Look for the test that you want to link and checkmark the box on the left next to the test.
5. Once the test is marked, scroll to the top of the page and click the “LTI Link” button.
6. Copy that link and paste it in the “Tool URL” (see Step 5 from Setting up Moodle).
Finding the Consumer Key and the Shared Secret:
1. Go to app.fasttestweb.com and login with your username and password
2. Click the Workspace where the test is found (do not click “Enter Workspace”). If your workspace contains subworkspaces make sure you are in the parent workspace of all subworkspaces.
3. Next to the “API Key” field you will see “Click here to show API Key”.
4. Copy the key and paste it in the “Shared Secret” field in Moodle (see Step 5 from “Setting up Moodle”).
5. Now, we need to add the “Consumer Key”. But first make sure that in FastTest you click the Workspace or Subworkspace where the test is found. If your workspace contains subworkspaces make sure you are in the lowest level of all subworkspaces.
6. Next to “REST API Key” you will see a series of letters and numbers
7. Copy the Key and paste it in the “Consumer key” field in Moodle (see Step 5 from “Setting up Moodle”). Now, you can return to the next step.
